Thursday night after the fun trip to the school, we had another pit stop. We told the girls where this pit stop was going to be just 5 minutes before arriving.. It might have been mean to do, but we didn't want unnecessary worry from the two older ones. Where did we go? Flu Shot Clinic!!
We prepped the two older girls.. Telling them Daddy would go first, then Mommy, then Kat, Ellie and finally Dani. And we made the a deal that if Daddy was brave, mommy would be brave.. and if Daddy and Mommy were brave, Kat would be brave.. And.. well you get the idea. The only one it didn't apply to was Dani. She could be whatever she wanted.
So we got there, and there were at least 5 kids CRYING!! Not just whimpers, but full out loud crying. Oh boy. This isn't going good. What is a parent to do? Turn it around and make the other kids seem like wimps of course. LOL
After a very short wait, it was our turn. Went through the questions and all that.. Then Daddy's turn. The nurse got Kat involved, and as soon as she pulled Kat aside to tell her what to do, we knew that Kat was putting on her "nurse's gear". ;) She held Daddy's hand, and asked him what colour was Santa's belt to distract him. LOL She did the same thing to me (but with a different question).
When it was her turn, the next table had a girl probably about the same age getting it too, and that little girl was in tears and it was taking two people to hold her still. Got Kat into the position on Daddy's lap, got her to look at me, and got her talking about what she wanted for Christmas. She didn't even notice it being done!
Next, Ellie's turn. Same deal, got her on Daddy's lap, and got her talking about what she wanted for Christmas.. And I quote "umm.. well maybe... That hurts.. lots of stuff.. I want lots!" LOL So ya, a "that hurts" was Ellie's reaction.
And our little Danykins. You would think the two year old would react more, and possibly cry, or at least squirm. Nope.. Not even a flinch from her. We had her talking about her favourite animals at home.. And nothing.. And within seconds after getting it (and getting her sticker) she was back running around.
And as they were filling in our cards, both nurses at that table said that they wished all the kids were like our three.. That "they were the best kids they had all night"!!
After that was done, we had to hang around the centre for 15 minutes - guess to make sure there is no reactions. So walked down the hall to the library, and signed up for a card. Only took out a couple of books, but the girls are VERY happy to have a library again. It's alot smaller than the one in St. John's, but it's kind of to be expected since the St. John's library was the main library for not only St. John's, but for all of the island. And this one is a small community library. But i think it will do a good job.
