A long drive today.
Had breakfast at Cora's - Yum. Then headed on the road. It's always a good sign when the GPS says drive 573km then take exit on right. We weren't going to listen to him because of stops, but if it weren't for stops, it would have been 1 road to Quebec city. Pretty impressive. The section of road from Fredericton to Edmunston was wonderful - very few cars on the road, 4 lanes, great speed, smooth, and fantastic views.
Our first detour was in Hartland to see the world's longest covered bridge. While not the most exciting stop, it was fun to see. We drove over it once together, then walked around to look at it. Kat, Ellie and I walked back over it (seems a lot longer when walking across), while Daddy took Dany back across in the car. And then back in the car to drive more. That was our only exciting stop for the day.
The drive into Quebec City was a little chaotic. So many roads, lots of cars, a lot of slow downs, and then all the stay rights / stay lefts. But without missing a beat, we made it to the hotel. Checked in, and went up the room. First disappointment is that our room was directly across from not only the elevator but the ice & vending machines as well. Went into the room, and it wasn't a great room. It was obvious that it was old. The decor was old, the comforters were those old style "cardboard" ones, the beds were hard. We were convincing ourselves that this was the last night, we could survive. But then we convinced ourselves in the opposite direction. Why not see how much it would cost to upgrade to at least a bigger room (queen beds instead of doubles, and maybe a better location). So we made sure that nothing was unpacked and went for a walk to the front desk. And for 35$ we could upgrade to a junior suite with queen beds. Sure, why not.. it is afterall our last night of vacation - our last night in a hotel. Got our stuff from our first room (on the second floor), and brought it all up to the 4th floor. Walking down the hall, you could immediately tell that we were leaving the old hotel, and entering a new hotel. The carpets were different, the walls were different, the doors were different, even the lights were different. We found our new room. Far different room too. It was a NEW room. Big beds with fluffy pillows and comforters. Gorgeous bathroom. And a balcony looking over the atrium (with the pool, splash pad, hot tub, birds). Well worth the upgrade. :)
We all got changed and had a quick play in the pool area, and then back upstairs to order in food. Local pizza joint, and it was actually really good.
